Must-have WordPress stuff - Part 3: Track your readers
Written by Tom Ackermann on July 3rd, 2008 | 1 Comment »I recently started a series about WordPress plugins I am using and which I highly recommend to use in any blog. The last part was about scheduling your posts - this third part is about tracking your readers. Tracking your readers helps you to find out how visitors read your blog, how people find your blog and how they leave your blog. This could help you decide which advertisement campaigns are effective and which are not.
Most people probably know Google Analytics. This is a very powerful tool from Google which lets you know exactly how people found the way to your blog, which links they followed or which search queries they used to find your site. It tells you where your visitors come from, how long they stayed on your site and which pages they visited. And the best part is - it’s free
You just have to add some lines of code to your website. But if you’re not familiar with the WordPress code you probably don’t want to edit it - and that’s where Google Analyticator jumps in. Install this plugin, activate it, add your Analytics tracking number and it automatically places the tracking code into the right place in your blog. Probably the easiest way to use Google Analytics with WordPress
